Not impressed

A Quiet Place (2018)

The movie 'Bird Box' has been compared to this film when the former was released. If in 'Bird Box' the visual apparatus was the weak link, here any kind of sound is the stimuli that agitate the beast. At the slight presence of noise, a creature which looks like the one discarded from the set of the ‘Alien' franchise appears from nowhere to swallow the propagator.  As viewers can see later, high-decibel acoustics turned out to be its Achilles’ heel after all.

The viewers are left in the dark on how it all started but what we are told is that nobody is supposed to make any noise. We end up watching another silent movie without intertitles. There is an option, however, for subtitles for ASL (American Sign Language) as it is used in the film.

Even though all the film critics seem to sing only praises for the film, I was left feeling disappointed. Nothing much really happens in this movie. A family runs for their home as their youngest child is killed by the beast for playing with screeching toy plane.

The family (father, mother and two kids) reach their new hideout. A year after the first scene, they live in a world of silence, just communicating with each other in sign language. Their house is filled to the brim with sensors to alert them on a beast attack. Knowing very well that they have no communication with the outside world and that their lives were hanging on a thread, the mother is seen walking around with a gravid tummy. Nothing extraordinary that is not expected really happens. The rest of the story is about each member of the family wards off the creature while the mother delivers her baby after a near-death experience.

The audience is left wondering what really happened,  and what is the point of the movie. The mighty powers that be in Hollywood are trying to shove us something mediocre like this down our throats and trying to impress us as something with high artistic value. But I beg to differ. I am not impressed.

Conspiracy theorists' galore

Social Engineering, Agenda 21 & Transhumanism - The Secret Manipulation of Humanity
(2014, You-tube; David Icke)

Recently, I was introduced (not in person) to this erudite, fast-talking, fearless critic of modern civilisation. He can be said to be one of the doomsday prophets who predicts a very bleak future for mankind. He foresees a future where Man would not be a thinking individual but rather one whose reasoning power is numbed, thanks to the subversive actions of alien lifeforms and their representatives on Earth, the descendant of the Rothschilds and many other leading members of the society including the ones in the Fabian society.

In this 2 and a half hour presentation, the speaker tirelessly covers many ranges of topics that he has been trying to do a summary of all the things that he has been trying to theorise all these years. First, he suggests that human beings many centuries ago had full use of their brain, living blissfully long lives in harmony. An alien race, the Archons, who landed here changed all that. These visitors infused their 'reptilian' DNA into Man. This breed of hybrids lives amongst us, mainly in positions of power, controlling us. The examples of these are the monarchs and Rothschilds. They rule by proxy; the leaders of the most powerful nations and members of elite groups. The Jews are not pictured as the bad guys.

Interbreeding between the God and human have been mentioned in many ancient and serpent symbolism are surprisingly represented in so many cultures, from Africa, Orient, India, Nordics to the Americas.

The alien race controls the human race via their centre located in the matrix of the Moon. Their mission is to numb our inner eye to dampen the ability to receive wisdom and inner realisation. They plan to depopulate the planet. Their many ways towards this end include the denudation of its forests, inclusion of toxins into our bodies via vaccines, fluorination of water, genetic modification of our foods and creation of unnecessary wars.

They are infiltrating our bodies via microchips, monitoring our every move through surveillance and facial recognition techniques as well making us zombies through our addiction to our handheld digital devices.

These reptilian visitors would not rest until they change our world akin to their anarchic 'Archon world'

There is hope yet for mankind. People have to realise these agendas. An awakening is needed to combat this annihilation. Anyway, cracks are appearing in their work. Many of their nefarious works are slowly being exposed. We need to transform our reality by changing our reality to truth and love, to be who we really are.

Early alien visitations to India

Kalai Arasi (கலை அரசி, Queen of Arts, Tamil; 1963)

Even when extra-galactical adventures, wars of astronomical proportions and extra-terrestrial visits in vimānas are mentioned in the Hindu scriptures, somehow, science fiction movies never really had a following at the silver screen level. A 1952 Hollywood collaborated film 'Kaadu (Jungle)' is the first Tamil sci-fi movie. Many alien visitation film ventures have failed, including Satyajit Ray's effort.

40 years before 'Koi Mil Gaya' burnt the silver screen hailed as the first successful Indian science-fiction flick, Kollywood did indeed release an epic saga of alien visitation, flying saucers and alien abduction. Keeping with the interest of viewers of that era, the elements of romance, songs, dances and swashbuckling scenes were kept very much alive.

This movie almost did not make it to theatres. The project was apparently started in the last 1950s as evidenced by choice of leading actors. MGR and Bhanumathi must have been the hottest pair in the late 50s after their successful pairing in 1955's 'Ali Baba and 40 thieves' (அலி பாபாவும் நாப்பது திருடர்கள்), hence the pick here, I think.  The lyricist who is credited passed away in 1959. The song lyrics were conversational-like, unlike the ones that came out in 1963 where melody, poetry and symbolism were given more importance.

Alien (MN Nambiar) with vision goggles and spacesuit
Talking about its songs, I have to say that, even though I can swear that I had never heard the songs before, they had a haunting feel to it. The lines were quite prophetic. One particular line in the opening song struck a chord with me, 'under enclosure of the blue skies, in the lap of the sea and earth, the Lord of Time rules over us'.  If one were to scrutinise the lyrics, we could also learn about the planet's weather, terrain and its day-night cycle. It had midnight sun and inhospitable environment.

I have a funny feeling about MGR showcasing his atheistic outlook in this movie. As per the norm in most Tamil films, praises and salutations to the God are the order, either in the opening credits or as props. Surprisingly, none of these was present. As if reading my thought, a line was heard, something to the effect of 'time is under the purview of the sun, and that decides all the occurrences on Earth', i.e., not God who runs the world!

Mission: Earth!
Another line which says about the same ideology towards the end of the movie is 'எங்கிருந்தோ வந்தோம், எங்கேயோ போகிறோம்,எப்படி செந்தோமோ, அப்பெடியே செண்டுகிறோம், வருட்டோமோ?' (Don't know where we came from, don't know where we are going to, don't know how we met, the same way we are going.) It looks like the Creator is nowhere in the equation of birth and death. This, the main character (Mohan, MGR) says this to an alien being as he departs from her planet.

The story can be described as a bit wishy-washy sometimes. The filmmakers must have got some of their ideas from 'Flash Gordon' as seen with some of the cinematography. One can sense that some scenes were added. At one juncture, Mohan is running dressed in dhoti just to continue in another locale in pants and trousers. This can be expected as filming had come to a halt due to MGR's other prolific offers and had to rejuvenated years later after the producer held a hunger strike in front of MGR's office!

It starts with MN Nambiar as the commander of an alien ship navigating through milky way past Jupiter and Saturn heading towards Earth (Boologam). Even though his race had attained great heights in the field of science and technology, it lacked wisdom in art and music. The two-manned flying saucer was heading to Earth to kidnap Vani (Banumathi) whom the aliens knew to be good in this field. The mission was to get Vani to teach his people music and singing.

What is Tamil movie without dual roles?
Mohan, a do-gooder farmer, lives with his sister (Sachu) and an old mother. He is in love with Vani, and the feeling is mutual. Aliens abduct Vani and Mohan is imprisoned as the kidnapper. In the meantime, the no-good manager (VS Veerapa) spots a village idiot who resembles Vani as her replacement. Mohan is freed. Mohan spots the alien who was left behind, overpowers him and sneaks into the flying saucer and makes it to the planet where Vani is held.

She is treated well and is promised of her freedom after she imparts her knowledge to the prince of the land. Guess what! When Mohan reaches the planet, he spots his doppelganger who is kind enough to teach him a thing or two about the planet like using anti-gravity shoes and the environment. Unfortunately, he is hit by meteor and Mohan uses his costume to enter the palace as a jester. The rest of the movie shows the princess (Jaishree) falling in love with Mohan, Mohan wriggling himself away from the princess, convincing her of his undying love to Vani, getting a crash course on manning a spaceship, having a duel with MN Nambiar who is keen to get Vani, saving Vani and safely returning to Earth!

Is that a bird or a plane? No, that's a flying saucer!
Bearing in mind that the film was made in the late 50s, it can be said to be quite unconventional. Although you cannot compare it to Star Trek or Star Wars where all the tiny details are thought of, it can be said that they did introduce something new as far as Indian cinema is concerned. The idea of anti-gravity shoes is refreshing. Laser guns came in the form of flame-spewing taser guns. Some of the scenes look like they are preparing the people for a time in the future where spotting a UFO in the sky is as uninteresting as seeing a cow on the Indian street.

Unconventional also is the fact that there were no comedians in the cast. The only light moment that I found is a line at the finish when Mohan and Vani are met by Vani's father and questioned about their disappearance, Mohan just says, "Oh, we were abducted to another planet!" To which the father says, "Oh, come off it, we have a lot of work to do."

Mohan and Vani just say to each other, "One day all these will be possible!"
At another instance, farmers are fascinated by the flames in the sky. Mohan, the knowledgeable one, just tell them matter-of-factly, "Oh, that is a flying saucer in the sky!"

It only goes to show that a revolutionary thought just stays a thought if the time is not ripe for the general public to accept. Many forward thinkers who were way ahead of their times just disappeared without having ideas jotted in the annals of time. The performance arts, literary work and now with the aid of cyberspace, every thought process can potentially reach every nook and corner of the civilisation. Ideas evolve so fast in this restless world that even before you say "Eureka!", your discovery is already yesterday's news.

Human Sacrifice!

Call me spoilsport. Call me weird. Because folks, the historical white Taj Mahal, sadly does not excite me. If you tell me, it denotes the love of Shah Jehan to his wife, I say bull shit! You say it is a marvel of architecture, I say, at what expense?
Easily the most photographed
building in the world!
It is a symbol of cruelty, of despotism, of one man's crazy dream to build the finest marble mausoleum for a lady succumbing to complications of post partum haemorrhage after delivering her 14th heir to the throne. The lineage to the throne is nothing to shout about anyway. We have all heard how the offspring without skipping a generation have imprisoned their elders, their parents and fought amongst themselves for greed of power.
The mausoleum is a reminder of all the devilish offspring borne by the mother's uteri to be born on Mother Earth for this eternal mother to carry the weight of the sin of their atrocities. It also reminisce the worker force, skilled and otherwise, who lost their dignity, times spent with family, their sight, their limbs (for fear by the king of craftsmen repeating such a feat elsewhere).
Coca chewing slaves toiled here!
I suppose the same can be said of such 'Wonders of the World' - Angkor Wat, Pyramids, Great Wall of China, Mayan Temples, Machu Pichu...
But then again, some of these mammoth structures may not been men made but rather ancient alien technology infused / imparted, human slaves toiled, self (alien) serving monuments... Food for thought!

Unexplained!

20 Worlds greatest unresolved mysteries ever
None of them is not explained yet, here are some fact about each of them…(from doctorweird.com)

1. The mighty Incan Empire of South America
The mighty Incan Empire of South America flourished between 1200 and 1535 AD. They developed drainage systems and canals to expand their crops, and built stone cities atop steep mountains — such as Machu Picchu (right) — without ever inventing the wheel. Despite their vast achievements, the Incan Empire with its 40,000 manned army was no match for 180 Spanish conquistadors armed with advanced weapons and smallpox.

2. Ancient Pyramids in Giza , Egypt
Khafre (l.) and Khufu (r.) are two of the three ancient Pyramids in Giza, Egypt . Khufu is the biggest, consisting of more than 2 million stones with some weighing 9 tons. The Pyramids, built as elaborate tombs for divine kings, date back to 2,550 BC. Modern Egyptologists believe that the Pyramids are made from stones dragged from quarries and, despite ancient Greek testimony, were built predominantly by skilled craftsmen rather than slave labor.

 3. The Mayan Temple
According to the Mesoamerican Long Count Calendar, made famous by the ancient Mayan people, December 2012 marks the ending of the current baktun cycle. This little bit of information has many archeologists spooked. Some believe the Mayans were warning of a coming apocalypse, while others insist it’s simply a mathematical misconception.

4. The Legend of El Dorado
The Legend of El Dorado originates from the Muisca, who lived in the modern country of Colombia from 1000 to 1538 AD. In a ritual ceremony for their goddess, the tribal chief would cover himself in gold dust and jump into a lake as an offering. This spawned the legend of a lost golden city, which led Spanish conquistadors on a wild goose chase to nowhere.

5. Easter Island
Easter Island, also known as Rapa Nui, is remotely located 2,000 miles off the coast of Tahiti . The original settlers of the island were Polynesians who migrated to the far-off land between 400 and 600 BC. They built many shrines and statues, called moai, from stones quarried throughout the island including a volcano site. Researchers still question exactly how the large stones were moved.

6. The Bermuda Triangle
The Bermuda Triangle — located in the Atlantic between Bermuda , Florida and Puerto Rico — is a thief, stealing planes and boats right out of existence. The area got its name after Sgt. Howell Thompson (l.), along with 27 Navy airmen, vanished from the devilish spot during a routine flight in 1945. Rumors persist on a supernatural explanation, but many specialists blame hurricanes, a heavy Gulf Stream and human error.

7. The Nazca Lines
The Nazca Lines cover more than 190 square miles in the southern deserts of Peru . The mysterious shapes etched into the land rival football fields and predate the Incan Empire. The ‘Las Manos’ figure (above) is 2,000 years old. Little is know about why the Nazca people constructed such vast pieces of sand art, some believe they are extraterrestrial in nature, while others claim they may have carried and pointed to sources of water.

8. Aliens
Area 51, located on Groom Lake in southern Nevada (c.), was founded in 1955 by the U.S. Air Force to develop and test new aircrafts – such as the U-2 Spy Plane, A-12 Blackbird and F-117 Stealth Fighter. The secretive nature of the military base, combined with its classified aircraft research, helped conspiracy theorists imagine an installation filled with time-travel experimentation, UFO coverups and alien autopsies.

9. Sphinx of Giza , Egypt
Another Egyptian wonder, the Sphinx of Giza has the body of a lion and the head of a Pharaoh, believed by most to be that of king Khafre. It was carved from soft limestone, and has been slowly falling apart over the years. A popular theory of the missing nose claims Napoleon’s soldiers shot it off with a cannon in 1798, but early sketches discovered of the Sphinx without a nose predate Napoleon’s rampage.

10. The Loch Ness Monster
According to Scottish folklore, a mystical creature called a water horse lures small children to a watery grave by tricking them to ride on its sticky back. The Loch Ness Monster became an English wonder in 1933, after witness accounts made newspaper headlines. No hard evidence of the creature has ever been recorded with several pictures, including the one above, being proven as hoaxes.

 11. The Fountain of Youth
Don Juan Ponce de Leon completed Spain’s claim on America in 1509, and soon after was made governor of Puerto Rico . Six years later, following Indian rumors, he traveled north to the island of Bimini in search of the Fountain of Youth. Bimini turned out to be the peninsula of Florida, and the fountain remained hidden until July 2006, when famed magician David Copperfield claimed the waters on his $50 million Exumas Island (c.) had healing properties.

12. Chupacabra
Phylis Canion holds the head of what she is calling a Chupacabra at her home in Cuero, Tex. The strange-looking animal, first reported in Puerto Rico in 1995, apparently has a taste for chicken and goat blood. Although many pictures like the above might prove its existence, biologists assure none such creature exists.

13. The Ark of the Covenant
The Ark of the Covenant is described in the Bible as a wooden casket, gold plated, made for carrying the tablets of the Ten Commandments. The casket was carried throughout the desert and remained in the Israelite Temple until its destruction by the hand of the Babylonian Empire. Its whereabouts are still unknown, but Hollywood made its own version for ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark. ’

14. The Stonehenge
The Stonehenge landscape of Salisbury Plain , England , has become a tourist hotspot. But before foreigners with windbreakers and cameras showed up, the area may have been a burial ground and ceremonial den dating back 5,000 years.

15. The Iron Pillar of Delhi
The Iron Pillar of Delhi is a 1,600-year-old, 22 feet high pillar located in the Qutb complex in India . The pillar, made from 98% wrought iron, has been astounding scientists by its ability to resist corrosion after all these years.

16. Stone Spheres in Costa Rica
Discovered in the early 1940s in Costa Rica during excavations by the United Fruit Company, these perfectly formed stone spheres date from 600 AD to the 16th century. Their makers and purpose still unconfirmed, many believe them to be some religious effigy made to worship the sun.

17. Mothman
A humanoid with insect wings and crimson eyes, known as the Mothman, terrorized Point Pleasant , W.Va. , during the late 1960s. No solid evidence exists of the creature, except for a handful of witness reports documented in paranormal-journalist John A Keel’s ‘Mothman Prophecies’.

18. Jersey Devil
According to legend, 250 years ago a Jersey woman by the name of Mrs. Leeds cried out in despair during her 13th pregnancy, ‘Let it be the Devil!’ After childbirth, the baby was revealed to be a kangaroo-like creature with wings, and flew away to cause all sorts of Jersey Devil mischief. Today the Jersey Devil can be seen getting fans riled up during local hockey games.

19. The Tunguska Explosion of Russia
The Tunguska Explosion in Russia occurred around 7:14 a.m. on June 30, 1908. To this date, the exact cause of the explosion – which leveled 80 million trees over 830 square miles – remains a heated debate. Most believe it to be caused by a meteoroid fragment, others insist either a black hole or UFO origin.

20. The Lost City of Atlantis
The Lost City of Atlantis was introduced to the West 2,400 years ago by Plato, who claimed it to be the island home of an advanced society. Legend says it was sunk by an earthquake, with later interpretations as an underwater kingdom protected by mermaids. Its whereabouts still a mystery, recent underwater evidence suggests it was once apart of a larger landmass in Cyprus off the Mediterranean but the only true Atlantis exists in the Bahamas as a grand casino and resort hotel.
