A mother scorned!

Seven Days (세븐 데이즈, Korean; 2007)

Bollywood has planned a comeback film for the daughter-in-law of the First Family of Bollywood - the Bachchans, Aishwarya Rai. I heard the producers have bought the rights of a Korean film which is said to be one of the top grosser in the Korean market.

Seven Days is an action-packed movie made in the year 2007 but still looks fresh. The cinematography looks very fresh and energetic, combining the style of MTV and an action-packed movie of Hollywood.

It tells the story of a top-gun defence lawyer, a single mother, Yoo Ji-yeon (Yunjin Kim) whose pre-teen lawyer is kidnapped. The kidnapper wants no ransom but just to defend a certain accused charged of murder at his appeal. As the clock starts ticking and the days get closer to the trial, the chances of rescuing her daughter grow slimmer.

With the help of a not so 'by the book' cop, Ji-yeon sieves through the city looking for clues. Things become more desperate as the kidnapper seem to know her every move, her daughter develops an allergic reaction and people from high places are keen to the case under wraps!

A fast-paced thriller comparable to the big players in the West. The heroine, Yunjin Kim, who is a regular in the TV series, 'Lost' gave a convincing account of the emotions of a mother scorned by the kidnap of her child. There was no time for merrymaking and parading in flamboyant costumes. Without all these attractions, which indeed are the pulling points for Bollywood, I wonder how Aishwarya Rai's 'Jazbaa' would be different enough to keep the interest of its audience!
