Sincere gesture or showmanship? |
70 years ago today, the world was at war at two frontiers. The Western front was over and when everyone thought the Pacific one would also simmer down, the powers that be decided that it was mandatory to drop a bomb so powerful that could one day lead to the annihilation of our race, the human race.
Till date, no formal apology had been laid to the victims; either from Japan to its victims in Far East and South East Asia or from America to victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaki!
I saw an awkward youtube recording of a 1955 American TV show named 'This is your Life'. 10 years after Hiroshima, Capt Robert Lewis who dropped Little Boy from the B29 bomber 'Enola Gray' met a Japanese Methodist Reverend, Kiyoshi Tanimoto, who was there on the ground as the recipient of the devastating effects of an atomic bomb.

The show was a shame cleansing attempt by the aggressors by shamelessly announcing to the world of the humanitarian efforts of the Americans to treat and amend the faces and bodies that they distorted by their dastardly action. The producers were all out to to show how cordial they actually were and the length they would go to honour their guests!
An interesting observation that I found amongst all this talk is what both men said. Captain Lewis, after dropping the A-bomb, he turned around to see the debris enveloping the once vibrant city of Hiroshima to say, "God, what have we done?". Ironically, a dazed Reverend Tanimoto, seeing the sufferings on the ground apparently had said, "God, help these people!"

Funny how Man does everything with self interests but expect God to bail them out every time! And both of the warring sides think God is on their side. They also say that God is one. By the way, where was God when the bomb was dropped. With so many confusions and cajoling, it is difficult for God to grant wishes or stay neutral. After all, the law of the universe says, 'Every action has a equal and opposite reaction!' It does not matter who discovered it, Newton or the Maker!
