Hatred, humility and Hinduism

I heard a talk in the temple I go to occasionally. The committee has started a 15 minute segment where invited speakers of non-religious backgrounds speak on any topic in English to lure the youngsters back to the temples. This week a CEO of a multinational company was the assigned speaker.
Hysterionic melodrama of Kaikeyi
in front of her husband,  King.
He narrated a scene from the Ramayana. A day before the throning of Ram as the King of Kolsa, Kaikeiyi (one of the wives of the ailing King) insisted and manipulated the King to reverse his decision and bethrone her son Bharath instead. [The King had earlier promised Kaikeyi 2 wishes when she saved him at battlefield. She decided to use it then after the instigation of her wet nurse, Manthara.] The second wish was for Ram's exile for 14 years to end the coup de grace.
The speaker went on to impress upon his audience to emulate Ram in how he responded in that situation. Instead of standing his ground and fighting for the throne like any other individual would, he gave full obedience to his father's command and obliged.
He went on to highlight the superior virtues of Lord Ram fro all to follow suit, admitting he himself was not a living example but we had to start somewhere. Hinduism, he reiterated, is a humble religion. An act of bowing during salutations (Namaskar) is an example. To fight hatred, we should use humility as depicted above, not counter hatred and vengeance.
Of course, I have to give my 2 cents' worth of opinion here... As I recall, there were many wars and animosity  created in early India between the worshippers of Lord Vishnu (Ram is one of His manifestation, avatar) - Vishnunites and Lord Shiva worshippers (Shaivaites), as seen in a snippet seen below. I suppose we become wiser with time, hopefully!
