Delhi 2010

I just cannot help myself from giving my 2-sens' worth of opinion on the ongoing Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. No, I am not going to say that we should boycott the Games which only rekindles the ugly past of our colonial masters' antics of squandering from its subjects and milking it dry to fill up the coffers of British East India Company and its Empire till the sun finally had to set.
I am rather going to confine myself to the opening ceremony which I happened to browse while waiting to see how my favourite English football club, Liverpool, got run all over by the BPL minnows, Blackpool. Anyway, I have no intentions and patience of staying glued to tellie to keep track on the medal tally and so forth.
In spite of the rather dismal pre-opening ceremonoy reviews that the press all over the world gave, India had managed to stage a rather impressive and extravagant showcase of its culture to the rest of 'civilized' world with no glaring faux paus!
One cannot help but to compare this performance to the one put up by another giant who had also just sprung up from a long slumber, China, in the Beijing Olympics 2008. Without a shadow of a doubt, in my humble opinion, Delhi 2010 (opening) was a pale comparison to the latter. Beijing set the gold standards in how any major event should be organised. In the brilliantly choreographed and mind boggling props and colour camouflaging, the Chinese managed to illustrate and narrate their whole civilization and achievements with no words. Every participant of the ceremony did his part exceptionally well to tell the world, "Watch out world, here we come!"
We have been told that numerous steps have been taken by the Indian authorities to ensure adequate security and to sanitize Delhi and its surroundings. At the best to them...
For those who had missed the Commonwealth 2010 opening ceremony. here it is.

And those who want to view the Beijing Olympics opening again...

For those who want to know what these two civilizations have contributed to the world at large... Be amazed!

  1. I am truly amazed by the contribution of India, especially with cataract surgery performed in 6 century.

  2. Blimey! A reds supporter eh? Well, I s'pose someone's got to.

There seems to be turmoil at the club of late but if NESV is given the go ahead, it could be very positive at Anfield. Who knows, Liverpool might even win a game or two!!
Interestingly, a recent article stated, this big club is currently be sold at 300 million (2010) but was bought for 800 million in 2005.

Good luck to your club as this is going to be a defining season, both on and off the pitch.

Yes, I too was impressed by the Indian opening ceremony - it gave one an insight into the hustle, bustle and colour of Indian life, a reflection in all its glory. Superb.

  3. to Arse-nal supporter,
just like this blog, the reds are still basking in the glory of their glory days of the late 70s and 80s.
my 2 sons are trying their level best to influence me to support their fave team. Now, tell me, how do you support a team of a masculine game with a feminine name like Chelsea? As far as I know, Chelsea is Bill and Hillary Clinton's daughter. Period.
Shamefully Red but still supporting them in the relegation zone!

  4. Chelsea supporters eh- I blame the parents!!.

That reminds me, have you ever had a look at club badges.
Arsenal - A cannon, a strong powerful weapon (we're talking alpha male stuff here ;) )
West Ham - A sturdy pair of iron hammers
Man U - A devil a symbol of fear and evil

    and Spurs ?

I'll let you draw your own conclusions after you recover .

    Here's a quick update:-

Apparently, it took almost five hours of submissions by a series of lawyers whose weekly wage packets might make Fernando Torres blush. For those Liverpool fans who wore their colours to court, yesterday may have offered more entertainment than their team has of late.

This morning, it was announced that Hicks and Gillett have failed in their High Court attempt to wrest back control of Liverpool. The unpopular American co-owners had tried to oust the boardroom rivals that had sanctioned the sale of the club to New England Sports Ventures (NESV).

But Mr Justice Floyd ruled they did not have the power to do so. The decision means the sale to NESV can proceed. Liverpool can now be bought by another bankrupt American using leveraged debts and promising a bright new dawn to start this whole process all over again!

Then again, club chairman Martin Broughton hinted rival bids may now be considered. In recent days another bid has materialised, with Singapore billionaire Peter Lim offering £320m in cash for the club and its liabilities. He is also willing to provide £40m in cash to buy players.

This won't be instant, and there is more work to be done, but finally Liverpool football club can start to move onwards and upwards.

    Laters,
    Gooner

  5. ...Chelsea supporters eh- I blame the parents!!.....
So, parenthood is more than bongking, pushing and providing star education! They should also help them to choose the right football club, eh?
