Only so much we can blame our genes!

Bones and All Director : Luca Guadagnino There is only so much we can blame our parents for our miseries. Our parents give us building blocks to start life with. That foundation sets us the footing to let us grow. We acquire some favourable traits and some not-so-pleasant ones. We do not say much when things go our way. The moment something goes against our way, we jump at our parents for transmitting that offensive gene as if they were in control of what chromosome gets transmitted and what does not. Like an old friend once told me, we must take their diseases and other chromosome-related unfavourable traits just like how we willingly accept their wealth in their will. This bizarre romantic horror film is about an 18-year-old girl, Maren, who has to move schools and towns as she tends to eat human flesh whenever she feels love. She grows up with her single father. After her last fiasco at a sleepover party, her father had enough. He leaves her money, birth certificate, and background ...

Intelligent Designer or Pure Chance?

They are both from the rodent family but people's perception of both these furry animals are worlds apart. One receives awe of cuteness when seen roaming around the garden whilst the other received shrieks of panic. One has a fluffy springy tail whilst the other has a slim tapering tail. Both had their bodies evolve over generations to suit the environment they live and their need to survive. The squirrel's furry tail may aid in the balance as it jumps from branch to branch. The tapered rat tail helps escape through tight fissures. The bushy tail of the squirrel has its own added coincidental benefits. Being around flowering plants, the hairs on the tail aid in pollination. Certain internal traits could have evolved over time as and when the environment demanded. Other incidental features, like the fuzzy tail, performs accidental purpose to the survival of other species. Who decides on this? Is there a higher power who plays the role of an intelligent designer who, f...

The Secret of Life

Our body is brilliant. After all these years, from the time we roamed about the Garden of Eden or were swept ashore as a unicellular being, one thing never changed - the life-giving proteins of DNA and RNA. The basic tenet of carbon-based life on earth as we know it becomes varied with varying infinite ways of sequences and numbers to produce so many species and variants. The central blueprint of DNA, over the years, with exposure to various offending agents, propelled the master implant to self-regulate and auto correct the sequence to ensure the continuation of species. Only the fittest survive, hence change is inevitable. When a body is deprived of food, the master-control will initiate the sequence for starvation mode. Metabolism would be reduced, and lipogenesis is commenced. And the next time we consume food, nutrients would be pushed into the body silo for a rainy day. And if you usually regularly indulge in strenuous calories losing activities, do not expect to lose much weigh...
